Preface:
We
offer four opportunities for those that have a requirement
to do Volunteer Community Service hours. You must fill out
the form below to signup for one of the programs. Please
note the restrictions for each program. All programs
listed below require an initial interview during normal business
hours, Monday through Friday, 8:30 to 5 PM.
Program
1 - Volunteer work in KPB plastic recycling center.
Duties: The sorting and processing of plastic household
containers by PET classification. The percentage of
items consists of plastic bottles.
Requirements: Volunteer
must be 14 years old or older, have dependable transportation
to KPB Office and be able to work after school (be to the
office no later than 3:00), Monday through Friday and on
some Saturdays depending on work and KPB staff availability.
Program
2A– Litter
Removal
Duties: Participate in a KPB scheduled litter cleanup
event for a minimum of 2 hours. The cleanups are normally
scheduled on Saturday.
Requirement: Must be 14 years old or older, have dependable
transportation to and from scheduled events and must coordinate
with KPB office before and after performing volunteer time
at an event. Volunteer must be sure to sign in with the cleanup
event coordinator to receive credited hours.
Program
2B – Litter
Removal
Duties: This program involves scheduling of a special
litter cleanup program custom planned for the volunteer.
Requirement: Volunteer must have their own transportation,
be 16 years old or older and sign a planned cleanup program
outline, be responsible for issued supplies and comply with
all requirements of the program outline.
Program
3 - Office Administration
Duties: This is working in our office doing sorting,
filing and other general office administrative duties.
Requirement: Must be 16 years old or older and have dependable
transportation during our normal business hours above and
must be able to plan head and be available for a minimum
of 3 hours per work period.
Note: KPB
has limited volunteer office administrative work available.
Volunteers are normally needed at the start up of a major
project.
Program
4 – Collecting Plastic
Bottles (PET1) for recycling. 10%
of volunteer time must be done under Program 1) .This program
is only available for hours required for school or Bright
Futures. Not
available for Courted Ordered Community Service.
Duties: Volunteers under this program can collect plastic
bottles (PET1) for recycling and receive one (1) hour community
service time for every 32 bottles collected, Processed as
outlined in requirements below and turned into KPB office. This
program is open to Community Service volunteers of all ages.
Note: This program was designed to assist those with
transportation problems, conflicting school/work schedules
and applies to all ages. It is a proven volunteer effort
that can be fairly measured, accomplished during a volunteer’s
available hours and contributes to the improvement of the
environment.
Requirements:
Step 1
Community Service volunteers, when registering
for this program, will received a program briefing and be
credited with ½ hour volunteer time.
Step 2
Based on the program briefing, the volunteer will
collect plastic drinking bottles from home and their community. Consider
wearing gloves depending on the selected source from which
you are collecting the plastic bottles.
Step 3
Removed the bottle caps and place them in
a plastic shopping bag.
Step 4
Empty all liquid from the bottle and properly dispose
of the liquid, such as, pouring on a lawn, garden or down
a drain. Consider using a bucket or pail when processing
several bottles at one time.
Step 5
Place the uncapped and empty plastic bottles
in a trash bag(s) and hold for turn in at KPB office.
Step 6
Plastic bottles are to be turned into KPB office
only and volunteer will receive one (1) hour Community Service
credit for every 32 bottles processed as outlined above and
turn into KPB Office during normal duty hours. Counting the
plastic bottles will be a joint effort between a KPB Staff
member and the Volunteer.
Note: Plastic
bottles caps are PET 2 and should be turned in with the
plastic bottles. No hourly credit will be given for the plastic
caps.
