Our current adoption programs include Adopt-A-Mile (County roadways) Adopt-A-Shore and Adopt-A-Block (City of St Pete Beach/Lealman Community). Additional adoption programs are in the early planning stages.

Adoption programs are an important part of efforts to remove litter from our community and will vary from place to place. The basic concept of the adoption programs are:

• A group of volunteers or individuals taking a written commitment to remove litter and road debris;
• From a pre-selected area;
• A certain number of times per year.

There are other minor variable components such as placement of collected litter, signage, and safety requirements, but all will include the above three items.

Parties to these agreements will include, in addition to the volunteering group or family, owners of the property involved, such as the city, county, or state, or in some cases private parties.

The program will generally also include a central administrative office or non-profit organization. Keep Pinellas Beautiful, Inc. strongly supports all adoption programs as a successful tool in reducing litter and road debris in Pinellas County.
